Penis Downward Curvature: A Male Problem

October 18th, 2008

Penis curvature may have several symptoms. The most obvious is the abnormal curving of your penis either downward or upward. After this, you get painful erections and when you engage in sexual intercourse, it will be difficult and painful.

The best solution at this point is to consult your physician about this problem because most likely, you have Peyronie’s disease which is the abnormal curvature of the penis due to the appearance of fibrous band or scar tissue either on the top or underside of the penis. There are instances that scar tissue appears on both sides making the penis shrink. Sometimes, a fibrous band can appear around the penis in the middle, effectively tightening that area.

You must admit that this is a problem. If you are stricken by this disease at a young age, this may lead to lifelong impotency. Inability to have sexual relations with your partner may also lead to breakdown in the relationship. A lot of emotional and psychological trauma can result because of this devastating problem. The idea is to admit to yourself that you need help. There are a lot of treatments available to help solve this problem. Some websites devote themselves to answering questions and provide answers to this disease.

Non-surgical treatments are available to treat Peyronie’s disease. Herbal creams and pills can be resorted to help relive the symptoms and to treat the early signs of the disease.

Some medical doctors prescribed Verapamil, a pill taken orally and designed to treat high blood pressure which has been shown to improve the condition. Radiation has also been resorted to reduce the pain and doses of corticosteroids are also given to the patient. Surgery however is only considered in the most severe cases and should be entered into by the patient knowing fully well the risks involved.

Surgery may at best, only relieve the pain but it can lead to possible impotence. Skin grafts may be inserted and some may need penile implants to restore full use and functionality of the penis. This, however, does not assure the patient a 100% successful operation.

In some cases, abnormal penile curvature may heal itself simultaneously without any human intervention but it is best to go to a doctor as soon as the symptoms manifest to make sure that the condition will be treated as early as possible. Some may also require psychological counseling to help ease emotional trauma and restore self-confidence. Penile curvature is indeed a reality that must be dealt with accordingly.

Correcting Abnormal Curvature of Penis

March 23rd, 2008

Penis curvature is an uncommon occurrence in men, but it does happen. It occurs in 388 out of 100,000 men. It generally affects older men and has several causes. It can also be a birth accident and in that case, it is called hypospadias. If it happens during adulthood, it is Peyronie’s disease. The internal tissue of the penis is sensitive and in some cases turns to scar tissue. If this occurs, it will cause the penis to curve either downward or upward. Scar tissue on top can cause it to bend upward and scar on the underside can make it bend downward.

There are several known causes for the formation of the scar tissue. The most common is injury where successive hitting and bending of the penis may cause bleeding inside the shaft leading to scar tissue upon healing. Another cause is wearing tight pants. When the male has erections wearing tight-fitting pants, normal development of the penis would be restricted enabling it to grow either downward or upward. However, this requires repetition and constant wearing of tight pants and the simultaneous occurrence of erections.

Also, the poor development of the penis during adolescence, specifically the spongy tissue inside called corpora cavernosa can lead to this disease. A more common cause is age where a decrease in elasticity of the penis and the underlying tissue results to the appearance of scar tissue. Man-made interferences such as botched injections of collagen or other substances can lead to injury and subsequent forming of scar tissue.

Penis curvature can develop to impotence if untreated or uncorrected. Usually, males who have this type of penis abnormality are unable to have sex or if they do, are likely to experience some pain. Some doctors may suggest surgery to correct the curvature but the risks are high and can likely worsen the condition. Non-invasive treatments are however given more importance than surgical ones. A corrective program usually involves doses of steroids and vitamin E (a deficiency of this vitamin has also been pointed out as a possible culprit).

Herbal creams are also available claiming to revive the dead cells of the corpora cavernosa and herbal pills that can help heal damaged nerves. Radiation therapy is also used together with steroids and various drugs can also be taken either orally or through injections to the penis. There are a lot of treatment options for men suffering from penis curvature but it is always advisable to consult with a physician to determine the severity of the condition before taking or injecting any drugs.
